The Years End

'The nights are fair drawing in', a statement oft heard and certainly true when we celebrated our 10th Anniversary at the Hayloft in November.  However, when it came to the Christmas Knock, the winter solstice had already passed  and the light and hope for a new season was dawning.  What's more this year the winter has been mild and last years snow a distant spectre.

A bit Lucy Kite

Now whilst there was no Sarah Blizzard in the offing

the weather was definitely a bit Lucy kite. That said no where near as bad as last years postponed event in February where the rain was horizontal for 4 hours. In the end it didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the 26 players who took to the field.

The only casualty of the conditions was Ray Perryman who's little  septuagenarian legs couldn't take the hike after buggies were banned from the course.
After playing only 11 holes Rays day turned from bad to worse when he discovered he had locked his car keys in his van. Bummer !

But help was on hand in the form of Seve Matthews who put all his years of experience as a window fitter and Resident of Bullwell to good effect. In no time Ray had his keys back and his van now sported a new tripple glazed replacement unit with Georgian bars, supplied by Designer Glass Limited and fitted by Seve.

Ray was so pleased that he shot straight off to tell the missus without even staying for his steak pie.

The Golf

Despite the conditions some good scores were returned on the day. Helped no doubt by the Tee placement which considerably shortened the course.

Last years winner and Rain Master Maz couldn't quite
master the conditions this year and Dave Alcock, a last minute replacement took the honours with a score of 40pts.  This was impressive in itself but even more so given the fact that this was after a count back.  Second place man Paul Beer had dusted down his clubs for only the second time this year post a magnificent score by only using his 3 iron.

The lord also rewarded Phil Dobson's good work over the Christmas period with an impressive score of 39 to, take 3rd place.  One thing every one agreed on Phil has been working out.

There were a few other prizes to be had too, like 2 nearest the pins and the Longest drive.  One of the nearest the pins was won by ex Captain Wayne Moore.  The other two events were won by some one less important.
